4001 Principles of Learning and Teaching I (3 credits)
Section A : Tuesdays, 3:05 - 5:55 pm
Section B: Wednesdays, 3:05 - 5:55pm
This course focuses on the knowledge and skills necessary for effective classroom instruction and management including: educational psychology, instructional design, and delivery techniques.
NOTE: Restricted to students with at least sophmore standing. Graduate students may also request permits for this course.
4002 Principles of Learning and Teaching II (3 credits)
Section A: Tuesdays, 3:05 - 4:25 pm
This course focuses on the knowledge and skills necessary for effective classroom instruction and management including educational psychology, instructional design and delivery techniques. This is the second in a two-course sequence designed to prepare the student to pass the Praxis II PLT exam for high school grades.
NOTE: Restricted to Georgia Tech students with senior or graduate standing. CETL4001 is a prerequisite for this course. No exceptions.
CETL 4803 S: Foundations for Science Teaching
Section S: Wednesdays, 3:05 - 5:55 pm
This course focuses on the teaching and learning of science at the middle and secondary levels. It is designed for those interested in teaching the earth, life, or physical sciences (physics and chemistry). It explores the teachers’ role in science education and focuses on how students learn science concepts through problem-solving. Models of effective instructional strategies that promote student learning and understanding of science concepts and processes are examined. Methods for evaluating instructional resources, planning lessons, facilitating classroom inquiry, planning laboratory experiences, managing science equipment, maintaining a safe science classroom, meeting district and national standards, using technology to support learning, and assessing student learning are developed and discussed.
Prerequisite: CETL 4001
2000 Undergraduate Teaching Assistant Preparation (P/F, 1 credit)
Sections: CS, MAT, Math
This course is an introduction to the procedural information and practical skills needed to be an effective undergraduate teaching assistant.
NOTE: Sections of CETL 2000 are offered by individual departments who coordinate scheduling for their particular section. NOTE: Permits for students in department-specific sections will be automatically requested by their departments. However, once CETL issues the permit, the student must register for the course in OSCAR to be enrolled in the course.
3000 Residence Life Seminar (P/F, 1 credit)
Sections: Multiple sections are offered each fall.
This course is designed to enhance the skills and abilities which allowed you to be hired as a Student Staff member at Georgia Tech. It will educate you to the goals, values, and mission of the Department of Residence Life, present new perspectives on the residence hall environment, and provide you with some techniques, skills and knowledge necessary to becoming a successful staff member. Participants in this course will gain a deeper understanding of their role as a leader, helper and educator within the residence hall through the development of their human relations skills.
NOTE: Sections of CETL 3801 are offered by the Department of Residence Life who coordinates scheduling for all sections. NOTE: Permits for students will be automatically requested by Residence Life. However, once CETL issues the permit, the student must register for the course in OSCAR to be enrolled in the course.
