Instructional & Educational Technology Resources
Overview
The Center for the Enhancement of Teaching & Learning and the newly-formed Educational Technology department offer a rich variety of supported technologies for teaching, learning, and research used in the online medium and the traditional classroom.
Primary Resources (by adoption and available support)
- T-Square, an online teaching, learning and collaboration software. This is the premier software for teaching and research at Georgia Tech.
- Buzzport, a campus-wide communication portal which includes a homepage for every course listed in Banner. Each course homepage can have up to six links, and instructors can easily email the class from the course homepage or use a chat room for synchronous communication. Instructors that prefer to use WebCT can link directly to the course WebCT page instead of the Buzzport course home page.
- Personal Response System (PRS or clickers), a live polling application for use in traditional classrooms. Used effectively in large lectures.
- Wimba, (formerly Live Classroom), a suite of tools for live, audio chat, application sharing, and voice tools.
Secondary Resources
- Mailing Lists: Mailing lists can serve a variety of instructional purposes. If the learning objectives are best obtained through discussion, class time may not provide adequate time for meaningful discussion. Students can participate in discussions online without being in the same location at the same time. If you are interested
in setting up a mailing list, visit http://list.gatech.edu,
a site offered by the Customer Support Center of OIT (http://www.oit.gatech.edu/help/report_problem/overview.cfm).
- MERLOT: MERLOT (Multimedia Education Resource for Learning and Online Teaching, http://www.merlot.org) is a free collection of online learning materials from a variety of disciplines. Each resource is annotated with peer reviews, comments, or assignments.
- RealVideo Server: Academic faculty can request space on the Real Video Server to post digitized video for instructional purposes. To request space on the video server, contact the Customer
Support Center of OIT (http://www.oit.gatech.edu/help/report_problem/overview.cfm). To request help with editing or digitizing video, contact the CETL office or request student assistance from CETL.
- WebCT@GaTech: WebCT is a software product that allows faculty to maintain a course Website with sophisticated components such as online quizzing, interactive discussions, chat rooms, hyperlinked glossaries, and more. Faculty can collect and manage student data such as time spent online, pages visited, and statistical data regarding grades. For more information, check out the WebCT@GaTech homepage, http://info.webct.gatech.edu.
