Dr. Kirk Bowman is a professor of international affairs in the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts and Rise Up & Care Term Chair in Global Development & Identity. Dedicated to helping students learn by doing and in context, Dr. Bowman has directed 22 study abroad programs. He says, study abroad is a laboratory for experimenting with teaching and learning activities and methodologies. It is also a great domain for lengthy conversations with colleagues over what is working and what is not working, and with adjusting on the fly.
Dr. Bowman appreciates the environment in the Sam Nunn School and his colleagues dedicated to excellent and socially informed pedagogy. As a Provost Teaching and Learning Fellow, Dr. Bowman is looking forward to developing and executing projects with his VIP team that combine global philanthropy with pedagogical materials that counter implicit bias and discrimination.
